For some, hiring a private or personal chef is not financially feasible.  However, for others, the costs of hiring a personal chef may be just over estimated…especially, when compared with the alternatives.  A personal chef is basically someone who cooks meals for you and your family.  They may cook at your home, or they may cook elsewhere and deliver the meals to your home.  We started using personal chefs years ago, and have found the cost (while not insignificant for us) to be well worth the benefits.  Some of these benefits are not fully obvious until you experience them.  We’d find it painful to go back to meals without a personal chef.

Often, the personal chef will do grocery shopping and even plan the menu for you.  Ours cooks dinners and lunches for 2 adults and 2 children for 5 days (which still provides the opportunity to occasionally take-out some decadent favorites), and delivers all the meals once per week.  Of course, the grocery costs would be the same if you paid for them, so excluding groceries, consider all that you get for the remaining cost of hiring a personal chef…

Time Savings

You not only save the time for shopping and cooking, but you save the time coming up with meal plans, and learning new recipes, which may take additional trial and error time.

Health

A common alternative to cooking is take-out.  Face it, restaurants offering take-out are competing on taste.  What do chefs call butter?  “Customer satisfaction.”  Of course, each family has a different definition of healthy diet, but the beauty is that you can usually provide your preferences to your personal chef.  Then you suddenly gain control over the ingredients and how your food is prepared.  For anyone who thinks personal chefs are too expensive, consider “what is the expense of future health issues due to poor nutrition?”  IMHO, this reason alone justifies hiring a personal chef.  And you’ll feel a lot less guilty about eating take-out again.

Variety

Most of us are not professional chefs.  We may build a repertoire of a handful of dishes, but let’s admit it, day after day, week after week, even a good size repertoire gets old and repetitive quickly.  Never again cringe at “This again?!”  Instead…Have a craving?  Satisfied.  Try something adventurous?  No problem.  Imagine asking for whatever you want each week and it magically appears on your doorstep.

Harmony

Just as lack of variety creates resentment.  Having to cook when no one appreciates your efforts creates resentment.  And the pressure of having to cook every meal removes any “joy of cooking”.  Will your children then view cooking as a resented chore?  Hiring a personal chef frees you up to enjoy cooking when you have time, and/or showing your kids that cooking can be a fun hobby or even a wonderful art.

Less Stress

Not only do you buy back more time, but you eliminate the stress of coming up with new dishes, or scrambling after a busy day to prepare a meal quickly to hangry loved ones.

Easily Entertain

Want to spontaneously invite someone over for dinner?  No problem.  In fact, you can present them with a healthy smörgåsbord.
